Empower Me First Mentorship Program

The Empower Me First Mentorship Program connects undergraduate first-generation students with a faculty or staff mentor to assist in building their network by encouraging students' professional and personal growth, engaging with faculty or staff to aid in setting goals and exploring interests, and empowering students to take ownership of their education and learn to advocate for themselves along their journey to self-discovery.

Intended for: Sophomores, Juniors, and/or Seniors

Empower Me First Fridays

These casual events are hosted the first Friday of every month around campus. The topics of these events vary by month ranging from building community, and connecting with opportunities, to learning how to get involved. Office of Academic Enhancement End of Year Celebration

Every April, the Office of Academic Enhancement hosts an End of Year Celebration to spotlight student achievements, experiential learning that students have engaged with such as internships, research, and study abroad, and recognizing our graduating students that engage with our office.  Whether you are joining us as a graduating student or as a student supporting peers by showing up to celebrate their successes, we welcome students to join us and participate. 

Intended for:  Open to all students; Empower Me First students graduating in May, Summer, and/or December who have engaged with our office will be recognized.

Student Organization: First Gen 'Canes

First Gen 'Canes is a student organization that is registered with the Committee on Student Organizations. The purpose of First Gen 'Canes is to unite, empower, represent, and cultivate leaders among first-generation college students at the University of Miami. It is FGC's mission to promote and coordinate active participation in academic, cultural, professional, and social activities for first-generation college students.
